Over the past thirteen plus years I have struggled to keep the Johnny Mack
Big Band working for what I believe to be a loyal audience that loves to
dance to the sound of a really great band. When you consider most big bands
only last a few years, you begin to realize it's a huge undertaking to
organize and promote such a large group of talented musicians. To gather
music to fit their events, and find places that will hire you and provide
the necessary funding on a regular basis.
Thinking back and then looking to the future prospects of doing it again I
sometimes pause and question my sanity. However the past thirteen years has
been such an experience that I can't express how very special and wonderful
those times were and still are. I believe our success is due to several
things; my "stubborn beliefs" that it will eventually happen if I try hard
enough, give it enough work and promotion and of course maintain those loyal
fans who love to dance to our music.
I've always felt that our future in the business comes down to several
simple things; keeping pace with the times by finding out what people want
to listen and dance to, play it for them and hope they'll beat a path to our
door. Add to that a little luck and timing, some great musicianship and our
own personal belief in what we're doing and we will persevere. We will
always attempt to provide a place for our followers to bring their families
and friends for an evening of fun and dancing while listening to a quality
group of musicians. Making events come off so the crowd that leaves at the
end of the evening has future plans of returning for our next outing is
foremost in our efforts. It's always been our plan to provide quality
entertainment for all ages, families and friends alike; that remains my
promise to you. - Johnny Mack
